mortality due to nephritis and uric acid diathesis was often observed during the fall of winter in captive black grouses fed with concentrate feed for pheasants. Mortality due to nephritis and uric acid diathesis was never observed when the fibre and the protein concentrations of the concentrate food was 10-11% and 19% respectively. The physiological values of the uric acid content in feces from caeca and small intestine of healthy black grouses was 2.2 and 60 mg/g respectively.
