The disproportionation of Co2(CO)8 in THF takes place only when water is present. Ion pairing interactions between Co2+ and Co(CO)4- are observed. The disproportionation is reversible at room temperature and under low PCO as a consequence of electron transfers between Co-I and CoII.

Abstract
