Abstract

At the end of the eighties, the research in mathematics education overcame a purely cognitive interpretation of the phenomenon of the difficulties in mathematics learning process, highlighting the role of linguistic, metacognitive and affective factors in this process. In this paper we discuss the role of affective factors, describing some of the meaningful result emerged by the specific field of research in mathematics education: the field of affect. Research on affect showed as affective lenses can be a relevant theoretical tool for observing and interpreting students' decisions in the context of mathematics activity. We also discuss as the theoretical results on affect can produce interesting hints for teaching practice.
