The proposed experimental study is aimed at evaluating the landslide susceptibility using a multidisciplinary approach: geological, geomorphological and geo-engineering survey, together with GI S-supported spatial analysis, statistical data analysis and physically based modeling. It is included in a wider research project, promoted by the Tuscany Region Administration and APAT-Italian Geological Survey. This project is aimed at defining the landslide hazard in the area of the Sheet 250 "Castelnuovo di Garfagnana" (1:50,000 scale). The experimental method applied for assessing the landslide susceptibility tested different statistical models, such as conditional analysis, discriminant analysis, logistic regression and artificial neural network. Moreover, a deterministic approach was performed in the apuan territory. This area, due to its geographical position and conformation, is one of the rainiest in Italy, and is frequently hit by severe rainstorms, as in the June 1996. The outcome of this study is the construction of susceptibility/instability maps and a comparison of the results with the real geomorphological and stability characteristics. © 2014 - Società Toscana di Scienze Naturali.

Abstract
