Connexins (Cxs) are a family of membrane-spanning proteins known to form membrane channels mediating cell-cell communication. So far, the expression of seven isoform have been found in cardiac myocytes. Cx26 has been described in a number of tissues but not yet in the heart. In the present study we demonstrate for the first time the expression of Cx26 in human, pig, rat and mouse cardiomyicytes . Interestingly C26 was found as scattered throughout cell cytoplasm but not at level of the intercalated disks where the other cardiac Cxs are mainly located.

Abstract
Connexins (Cxs) are a family of membrane-spanning proteins known to form membrane channels mediating cell-cell communication. So far, the expression of seven isoform have been found in cardiac myocytes. Cx26 has been described in a number of tissues but not yet in the heart. In the present study we demonstrate for the first time the expression of Cx26 in human, pig, rat and mouse cardiomyicytes . Interestingly C26 was found as scattered throughout cell cytoplasm but not at level of the intercalated disks where the other cardiac Cxs are mainly located.File in questo prodotto:
