This chapter deals with celebrated pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli’s performance from the point of view of its circulation, and particularly in terms of its involvement in media productions. These range from the early 78 rpm records to the digital recordings and CDs, from short films to TV broadcasts, from interviews to books about the pianist, also including re-mediations of his sound and image, recent ‘complete editions’ and TV commemorations. In so doing, the chapter focuses also on the performance of Michelangeli’s identity and individual style, which includes his concept of the musical text as written score. However, Michelangeli’s ‘musical persona’ is discussed insofar as it is represented in the media. The multi-level performance of this ‘media persona’ is considered as aspect of the cultural discourse, in which this chapter consciously participates by adopting an ‘immersive’ procedure with respect to media practices and products.

Il saggio affronta la performance del celebre pianista Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli dal punto di vista della sua circolazione, e in particolare del suo coinvolgimento in produzioni legate ai diversi media: dai primi dischi 78 giri alle registrazioni digitali e ai CD, dai cortometraggi alle trasmissioni televisive, dalle interviste ai libri che lo riguardano, incluse le rimediazioni del suo suono e della sua immagine, le recenti edizioni complete e le commemorazioni televisive. Nel fare questo il saggio si concentra anche sulla performance della identità di Michelangeli, del suo stile individuale, che include la sua concezione del testo musicale inteso come partitura scritta. In ogni caso, la ‘persona musicale’ di Michelangeli viene discussa in quanto rappresentata attraverso i media. La performance di questa ‘persona mediale’ viene presa in considerazione a più livelli in quanto aspetto del discorso culturale, del quale il saggio partecipa consapevolmente, adottando una procedura ‘immersiva’ rispetto alle pratiche e ai prodotti mediali.
