In 2016 the “Volterra Ancient and Medieval City Walls Research Project” continued: both the area around the Roman amphitheater and several segments of the Late Republican city walls were surveyed. In 2015-2016 the “Research Project on the Harbour System of Vada Volaterrana” continued by means of studies of coastal palaeogeography (in Collaboration with the Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra, Univer-sity of Pisa) and underwater surveys (in collaboration with SABAP Firenze). The results of the previous exca-vation campaigns and the relevant finds were presented both in International Conferences and in Meetings for local audiences and tourists.Regarding the excavations, we focussed on the South-ern sector of the archaeological area, (trenches CXI and CXII) in order to bring to the light the buildings I and L in their entirety. In building L we identified a large block, added most probably after the middle of the 2nd cent AD: at the moment it appears to be formed of 3 rooms (nos. 8, 9 10), aligned South/West-North/East.Building I consisted of 2 rooms; in the first phase (early 1st cent. AD- middle 2nd) one of these was most prob-ably a taberna because a bread oven has been identified within it.Both buildings underwent various and important recon-struction works up to Late Antiquity. The necropolis located South of building L continued to be excavated. It dates from the late 5th cent.AD.
