‘Sender: a Transnational Refugee and his Invisible Wounds (the Example of The Fugitive, 1971)’ Abstract With the translation of "The Fugitive" by Sender another important piece is added to the large unfinished mosaic of the circulation in Italian of the narrative work of the Aragonese writer, for too long remained in the shadows; at the same time, a new step forward is being taken in the understanding, in Italy, of the tragedy of the Spanish Civil War, of which the novel offers an oblique perspective, but still extremely illuminating in relation to the side effects of the conflict over civil society, deeply marked by irreconcilable contradictions, arbitrary persecutions and existential alienation. Thanks to the deep penetration of the text that every translation implies, the present study aims to capture, in filigree, those invisible but permanent wounds left by the war in the novel’s protagonist, another one of the many alter egos of the author who populate his works.
Con la traduzione de "El fugitivo" di Sender si aggiunge un altro importante tassello al grande mosaico incompiuto della circolazione in lingua italiana dell’opera narrativa dello scrittore aragonese, per troppo tempo rimasta nell’ombra; contestualmente, si compie un nuovo passo in avanti nella comprensione, in Italia, del dramma della guerra civile spagnola, di cui il romanzo offre una prospettiva che, seppure obliqua, appare assai illuminante rispetto a quelli che furono gli effetti collaterali del conflitto sulla società civile, profondamente segnata da insanabili contraddizioni, persecuzioni arbitrarie e alienazione esistenziale. Grazie al profondo lavorio di penetrazione del testo che ogni traduzione presuppone, il presente studio intende cogliere, in filigrana, quelle ferite invisibili ma permanenti lasciate dalla guerra nel protagonista del romanzo, ennesimo alter ego dell’autore fra i molti che popolano le sue opere.
