This article is intended as a contribution to the redemption of the figure of María Teresa León, an excellent and prolific writer for too long remembered only as the poet Rafael Alberti’s wife. Taking an overview of León’s three collections of short stories published during her Argentine exile (Morirás lejos, Las peregrinaciones de Teresa and Fábulas del tiempo amargo), in which the reflection on some key concepts of the republican exile literature excels, we pretend to demonstrate that she left an important imprint in that literature, which, like León herself, has long time remained in the shadows.

Abstract

This article is intended as a contribution to the redemption of the figure of María Teresa León, an excellent and prolific writer for too long remembered only as the poet Rafael Alberti’s wife. Taking an overview of León’s three collections of short stories published during her Argentine exile (Morirás lejos, Las peregrinaciones de Teresa and Fábulas del tiempo amargo), in which the reflection on some key concepts of the republican exile literature excels, we pretend to demonstrate that she left an important imprint in that literature, which, like León herself, has long time remained in the shadows.
