This paper describes an instance of merging two key technologies in the field of high-throughput satellite-to-mobile communication networks: formation of arrays (FoA)-based mega-antennas and user-centric (UC) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communications. The aim is to possibly attain a larger network efficiency than previous beamforming-based approaches with a similar overall complexity. The performance of this novel system architecture is assessed via a realistic network-wide simulation in terms of coverage and throughput, also adopting different satellite power-management approaches as well as precoding strategies.

Abstract
This paper describes an instance of merging two key technologies in the field of high-throughput satellite-to-mobile communication networks: formation of arrays (FoA)-based mega-antennas and user-centric (UC) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communications. The aim is to possibly attain a larger network efficiency than previous beamforming-based approaches with a similar overall complexity. The performance of this novel system architecture is assessed via a realistic network-wide simulation in terms of coverage and throughput, also adopting different satellite power-management approaches as well as precoding strategies.File in questo prodotto:
