Sixty-six strains of enterococci from artisanal cheeses were screened for antimicrobial susceptibility by standard disc diffusion method. Vancomycin susceptibility was also determined in liquid medium. Moreover hemolytic activity and thermonuclease production were determined. All the strains were susceptible to vancomycin, teicoplanin and beta-lactams and 93,9% of the strains were susceptible to tetracycline. Gentamicin, rifampicin and tetracycline resistance was found only in Enterococcus faecalis strains. No beta-hemolytic and thermonuclease activities were registered.
